iVote 2008
WXEL Television’s news magazine show “South Florida Today” (SFT) presented a special report on young voters: “iVote.”
The special aired in two parts. Part one aired Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at 7:00p.m. and featured stories on local efforts to increase young voters’ participation in the democratic process along with an interview with the national president of the League of Women Voters.
“iVote” Part two aired Wednesday, October 22, 2008 and was broadcast live.
“Voter participation, especially with potential young voters, is as relevant today as it was when our government was first established.” said SFT Executive Producer and Host Toni May, “Given the previous presidential election, Palm Beach County is especially aware that every vote counts and even one vote can make a difference.”

Partnering with The Education Network/T.E.N., Ch. 19 which serves as an educational resource for teachers through the School District of Palm Beach County, WXEL distributed PBS Vote 2008 curriculum guides to media specialists at Palm Beach County high schools. Teachers were able to use these guides during the month of October 2008. Other outreach activities have included a presentation--along with the distribution of PBS Vote 2008 curriculum guides--to the Children’s Literacy Committee members of the Palm Beach County Literacy Coalition, as well as distribution of the guides to home schooling groups/parents through the Boynton Beach City Library and to social studies teachers at Boynton Beach High School.

Video streaming of the two-part special will be available soon.
Election day is Tuesday, November 4, 2008
WXEL, The Community Foundation for Palm Beach County and the League of Women Voters urge you to let your voice be heard and Vote on Tuesday, November 4, 2008.

“iVote” is sponsored in part by the
Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties and The League of Women Voters.
