 What's On Radio - WXEL 90.7FM

Sunday, January 11 at 2pm – Radio Lab: Diagnosis
When Emmanuel was growing up in the Bronx, everyone in his family knew something wasn't quite right. His parents schooled him at home, apart from other kids, and he spent his childhood feeling different and alone. Then one day, 18 years later, his older brother takes him to a doctor and everything changes. This hour we look at what happens when we find out what is wrong. What counts as wrong in the first place? What does it feel like to deliver news that no one wants to hear? And how do people react when they finally find a label for what they have or what they are?

Sunday, January 18 at 2pm – Radio Lab: The Decision
Every day, you make a million decisions, what pair of pants to wear, what to eat, who to trust. And while those decisions make perfect sense to you at the time, it turns out that most of these decisions are not rational, not consistent, and not even really conscious. This hour, we hear the story of a perfectly rational man, investigate how a hot cup of coffee can make us trust someone we just met, and uncover the hidden life of our everyday decisions.

Sunday, January 25 at 2pm – Radio Lab: Sperm
Radio Lab is not interested in sperm in a dirty-porno-movie theater kind of way, of course not! We're interested in the very philosophical, human, essential question of what gets passed between us. This hour delights in the discovery of sperm, becomes hysterical about the possibility of a world without men (now that science has reproduced life without men), and empathizes with a wife contemplating inseminating herself with her dead husbands' sperm.

The Metropolitan Opera

Saturday, January 3 at 1pm – La Boheme by Puccini
Saturday, January 10 at 1pm – La Rondine by Puccini
Saturday, January 17 at 1pm – Doctor Atomic by Adams
Saturday, January 24 at 1pm – Orfeo ed Euridice by Gluck
Saturday, January 31 at 1pm – Rigoletto by Verdi

Countdown to Digital TV
Note the date: Feb. 17, 2009

Americans with older, analog televisions, which receive signals by antenna, must switch to digital by February 17, 2009. Subscribers to cable or satellite service should ask their providers if they need special equipment for digital reception. If you don't buy a digital model, a converter box will change the digital signals back to analog. The boxes range from $ 50 to $ 75 each, but starting January 1, 2008, U.S. households may request up to two $ 40 coupons, to apply to the purchase of the boxes. For more information, go to http://www.dtv.gov or call 1.888.225.5322.
